Chronic Sinus Pressure - The Hidden Causes and How to Eliminate Them

One of the most common sinus disorders, sinus pressure, can have causes that many of us may not have yet imagined. We usually associate this malady with: allergic reactions, sinusitis, hay fever, etc., and this is correct. But when dealing with chronic sinus pressure, or its potential underling: yellow mucus, it would seem imperative to address this condition at the causative level. So we can eradicate it once and for all. If we decide to do that, then we must look beyond the obvious and the relieving of symptoms.

Strong emotions

PRESSURE

Sinus problems can be the result of strong emotions, such as worry, anger, grief, or guilt. Unresolved emotions of this type can cause muscular tension in the chest, which can lead to the closing of the sinus passages. One way to safely release this tension is through learning positive, constructive ways of channeling those emotions. Here religion, the belief in "a higher power," can play a key role. In the mean time, and while exercising faith, acupressure can be very beneficial. When this is done the physical aspect of tension is released and the sinuses can often clear in a few short minutes.

Foods

A poor diet, lack of exercise, constipation, can contribute to or cause sinus problems. Some foods are needed to preserve the integrity of organs, like those classified as antioxidants, natural vitamins, protein, etc. On the other hand others should be avoided--if one is a sinus sufferer. Dairy products are a good example-especially when they produce an allergic reaction. I know a young woman who told me about the negative effect cheese has on her sinuses. Yet she would rather suffer than give up what she deems so delectable. Obviously, one has to simply decide what is more important. In this particular case cheese trumps four pairs of healthy sinuses.

Structural

Sinuses resemble rooms lying off a main hallway, the nasal cavity. All sinuses drain into the latter through a complex of passages created for that purpose, to lighten the head weight and for voice resonance. Sometimes the sinus passages have mal-formations which make it harder for the draining to take place. Or the nasal cavity septum is out of alignment and the air flow is misdirected. Whatever the structural problem may be, a doctor's advice should be sought. In some cases, when surgery is recommended, getting a second opinion would seem logical.

Pills, sprays, irrigation, can be fine up to a point, yet when dealing with a chronic condition such as sinus pressure, yellow mucus, etc., plain common sense would seem to point to a permanent solution, one that addresses the cause or causes not just the relief of symptoms. Those three items mentioned, above, can be "hidden causes" of sinus pressure and until addressed and eliminated they could continue to be the true causes of the problem.
