What Are the Dangers of Stress?

Stress is a necessary reaction for man and animals alike. The reasons for that stress in man are also similar, fear. When animals perceive that they are in danger they become stressed and then the reaction called 'fight or flight' sets in. When man is in a dangerous or anxiety filled he reacts much like other animal species, fight or flight. However man's stress is deeper than just the fear of physically being injured or killed and the consequences of leaving stress unchecked can lead to serious health risks.

When the body is under siege from stress, the adrenal gland produces adrenal and cortisol which goes through out the body. The heart begins to beat faster and the blood pressure rises instantly. Breathing is accelerated and oxygen makes its way to the muscles. Stress alerts the immune system to be prepared for physical damage. All these chemical reactions occur quickly and efficiently.
