Ulcers and Natural Treatment

There are many different kinds of ulcers - the medical term for a brake in the skin or the mucous lining of the gut or mouth that does not heal. They range from peptic ulcers - painful and potentially serious ones in the digestive tract to small mouth ulcers. Elderly people in particular can suffer extensive skin ulcers, caused by circulation problems or varicose veins.

Gastric (stomach) ulcers duodenal ulcers (in the small intestine) and esophageal (gullet) ulcers are caused by excess acid and/or the digestive enzyme pepsin. Small ones often develop, but cause no symptoms and heal without treatment. More serious stomach ulcers occur most often in men of 60 to 80, and result in recurrent upper abdominal pain and vomiting. A severe attack may last up to eight weeks.

On the other hand, duodenal ulcers occur mostly in young men subject to stress, and produce dull recurrent pain in the upper and central abdomen.

The pain of peptic ulcers is relieved by milk and alkalis, but aggravated by stress, excess stomach acid and smoking which increases acid production. The pain occurs after meals and there is tenderness below the breastbone.

What the Natural Doctors Recommend:

Homoeopathy

For peptic ulcers, Argent.nit is recommended when there is flatulence and gnawing pain in the pit of the stomach, which is worse when pressure is applied and after food, and the sufferer craves sweet things that aggravate the pain.

Try Arsen.alb, if the sufferer is anxious and meticulous, experiences diarrhea and burning pain immediately after food, and has no appetite.

Lycopodium is recommended for flatulence, and the sufferer feels full after the smallest amount food, desires sweet foods and cannot bear tight clothing.

When the sufferer has pain half an hour after eating, headache and constipation, feels better after vomiting, and is irritable, especially in the morning, Nux vomica may help. These preparations should be taken in the 6th potency.
